The gear box of any car is one of its most important components; failure of which normally renders the car inable to continue its operations. It is a complex unit regardless of the type of gearbox that is installed in your car: "mechanics," torque converter, variator or "robot". This means that more consideration should be done to it when the car is in operation. We have counted ten symptoms that indicate a breakdown in transmission; and when these are detected you should proceed directly to the service center.
It should be remembered that in normal operation, clutch components require regular repair every 100-160 thousand kilometers on average. Leakages of oil beneath the car or on the gear box housing require an immediate solution. Oil leaks could be as a result of damage to the unit housing mechanical-wise, or due to broken gear selector rod seals, wheel drive anthers. Lost oil in a manual gearbox overheats and quickly fails, and the automated transmission experiences a complete stopping working.
The transmission does not engage

Russia is awash with many autos that have manual transmissions. It is also reliable and somehow simple, yet sooner or later it fails as well. One of the most frequent occurring faults is the inability to engage the gear. The failure appears something like this: you enter the car, and you attempt to enter the gear by pushing the clutch, but the lever appears to be lying in wait and it fails to go along the groove completely. The transmission behavior might be caused by many factors. This may happen e.g. when the oil fluidity is poor (typical in winter), when the oil level in the pan drops, or when the gearshift or cable adjustments are incorrect (also characteristic of winter conditions) or when the clutch fails.
In any of these scenarios, you have big problems. Sniff. Especially in a longitudinal engine, where the gearbox is directly under the gear selector lever, one could smell burnt oil and feel the heat radiating up through the gearbox. The burning odor could either be due to a significant decrease in the amount of oil in the unit or excessive load leading to overheating of your gearbox. It is important to remember that oil does not only reduce friction losses, but it also receives additional heat due to the removed gears.
The smell of burning

In whatever case, this matter indicates the necessity of prompt replacement of the oil level and quality and its subsequent topping up or replacement. Inadequate lubrication will quickly render the gears and bearings of the gearbox useless followed by rendering it incurable. When the engine is started, listen carefully. The unusual noise, which varies in nature, might be produced by pressing the clutch. Observed it? The sound may be caused by over worn main bearings. It may also indicate low oil level or wrong type of oil, or excessive wear of release bearing.
Fully depressing the clutch pedal will also enable one to diagnose a bad releasing bearing. When wearing out, the bearing will produce a loud ruckling or humming sound. The sound silences again when you release the pedal. The other terrible issue is that when you are driving, the gear selector lever strikes into neutral by itself. Most of the time, when the load changes, sudden acceleration or engine braking. This is, at any rate, unsafe: you simply lose the grip at the worst possible moment. The driver of such a breakdown should manually keep the lever in the correct position, thus letting go of his hand on the steering wheel.
Noise in neutral

The breakdown is also caused by other numerous reasons. The most basic case is that the power unit supports are either destroyed or in very bad condition. Repair of a failure that is accompanied by extensive wear of the synchronizer teeth and gears will be even more challenging and expensive. Here you will need to destroy and disassembly the gearbox. In addition, the gears can fail because of a knocked-down mechanism of selection of gears adjustment. In a manual transmission vehicle, the driver has to disengage the engine and the gearbox using the clutch in order to select gears.
When the pedal is pressed, there is a special bearing on the elastic petals of the clutch basket, mechanical disconnection of the engine and transmission. Constantly the torque is being transmitted by the closed clutch disc to the input shaft of the gearbox-it rotates freely in the gearbox case. When the petals are badly worn, they drop off and can no longer allow the release of the pressure plate. The pressure plate clutches also wear and, over time, begin to slip, hence ceasing to transmit all of the torque to the car wheels. When the actual speed is very low, the engine speed increases and the automobile hesitates to run regularly.
Conclusion
